Shen is a Chinese word with a rich philosophical background and many definitions. It can indicate mind or divinity but is also used in Traditional Chinese Medicine and philosophy to describe vitality, compassion and soul.

The organs of the body all have associated elements and contain qi with different functions. Shen is housed in the heart and, together with the other organs, makes another definition of Shen indicating spirit.

Shen as it relates to health can indicate luster and a glitter. When you look at someone’s face and it’s glowing in health, happiness, a sense of self, and compassion, we say that they have Good Shen!

I thought for sure my endurance days in the mountains were over. As an alpine athlete, this was a sad thought. Jessica spent time with treatment and gave me some strengthening exercises that I could easily do at home. Within 30 days, I was back to alpine climbing. I think what really stands out about Jessica is her optimism as well as offering a solution-based approach. I'm so grateful to be able to move through the mountains again and reclaim my strength!
